Temple Beth El of Northern Westchester

This upstate New York synagogue underwent a renovation and structural addition while preserving the existing design of renowned twentieth-century architect, Louis Kahn. Temple Beth El is one of a handful of architecturally significant synagogues in the Unites States. A light-filled lobby connects the synagogue with a newly added structure that includes six classrooms, a large library, a social hall, a pre-function room, and a kitchen. The synagogue’s religious school is housed in the renovated classrooms of the original building. The lush setting of the Chappaqua landscape is enjoyed in the entranceway that features an array of large windows.

The project won a Design Citation Award from the AIA Westchester + Hudson Valley chapter in 2015.
