Yale Boathouse

Our award-winning proposal for the new Yale boathouse makes a bold architectural statement while providing first-rate training facilities and creating a beautiful venue for intercollegiate rowing competitions. The design takes maximum advantage of the narrow site along the Housatonic. The main level plan is divided in two with the locker rooms inland of a large common room that commands views of the river. Outside, a pergola extends from the boathouse along the bank of the river, providing a shaded pavilion for spectators. The curving roofs of the boathouse gesture to the surrounding hills and recall the movement of water in abstracted architectural form.
