Xi Shui Dong Retail

Two retail buildings at Xi Shui Dong, a riverfront development in the historic section of Wuxi in China, offer the community a memorable shopping experience. Both buildings are characterized by floating volumes sheathed in screens inspired by traditional Chinese lattice patterns. Conveniently, the size and column grid of the buildings was established in order to accommodate underground parking. The metal screens, painted red, the color of good luck and fortune, enclose the translucent glass facade of the second floor that is illuminated at night to simulate the effects of a glowing lantern. Extensive glass frontage at the street level allows a maximum visibility of the stores merchandise.
