A sinuous interior wall of concave and convex curves extends the length of this downtown loft with a triangular plan. The main living area is anchored at one end by an industrial-style kitchen with laminate cabinets and stainless-steel countertops that reflect incoming sunlight from large windows along the west wall. The triangular shape of the center island replicates the footprint of the building.
At the opposite end of the living room, a spiral staircase in the curved wall leads to a rooftop garden and acts as a light well for the interior. The loft’s plan culminates in the master bathroom behind the stair. Echoing Le Corbusier’s interest in objects that gesture to the organic, sensual curves of the human body, the master bathroom tub and shower are sculpted into the arc of the wall. Imported cobalt blue tile covers the wall, creating a cool, grotto-like sanctuary for the body.
