McKinley Community Center by
Alexander Gorlin Architects

Built for the New York City Housing Authority, this community center is set in the center of the McKinley Houses in the South Bronx.  The center includes expanded offices, computer education centers, game and activity rooms, and the addition of a multi-purpose auditorium and theater space. The architectural forms and materials used in the project provide a contrast to the dark mass of the adjoining brick apartment buildings. Transparent and bright, the center is a welcoming space for its users and suggests the nature of social interaction as a new community focal point.
